In this course, you will learn

1. How to create, launch and optimize a Meta (Facebook) Conversion Campaign to drive active listenership on Spotify.

2. How to make authentic and effective content that accurately represents your vibe specifically to be used as advertisements in your Conversion Campaigns.

3. How to identify and build your target audience for your campaign.

4. How to get on Spotify's algorithmic playlists, as well as a lot about how Spotify ranks and recommends music to listeners.

5. How to set up a landing page with a tracking pixel (aka dataset) as well as the Meta Conversions API to measure data more accurately.

6. How to interpret the results from your campaign and optimize it.

7. How to utilize custom and lookalike audiences for retargeting and efficiency.

8. Where to send listeners to achieve different results, e.g. an album, a single, a playlist, or an artist page -- each has unique benefits!

 

Do conversion campaigns actually work?

We have to preface this by saying that the focus of this course is on learning a skill rather than achieving a specific outcome. That said, well-run conversion campaigns are extremely effective at building active listenershipThis is because people engage directly with your videos and take active steps to listen to your music. As a result, listeners are much more likely to save your songs, add them to playlists, and become fans. We love fans!

Active listening is also particularly effective at triggering algorithmic playlists that will push your music even further, and if people continue to engage on algorithmic playlists... this is how songs blow up! Algorithmic playlists are now the leading form of discovery on Spotify.

As an example, Marmalade Mountain (Zack's band) save rates during album-based conversion campaigns are historically 50-150%, while background save rates are ~1-10%.

 

*The budget for the campaign shown above was $30/day, but budgets range drastically depending on many factors discussed in the course!

 

Prerequisites

1. Must have a release publicly available on Spotify to market, and an account set up through Meta Business Suite with an Ad Account, Instagram, and Facebook Page properly connected.

2. Must have a budget to market with; suggested minimum $10/day for 30 days. This all goes towards marketing your own work. If it goes well, optimize it and keep it running!

3. Basic video editing skills. You must be able to create video content with your music on it, even if it's just using CapCut or iMovie. Other recommended tools are Adobe Premiere, and DaVinci Resolve. Use whatever you like!

4. Growth Mindset! This is hard and will take a few weeks to get going. You have to put in the work if you want to get results!

Q: Can I market music that came out a while ago?

A: YES! We've seen everything from brand new releases to albums from several years ago perform well in Spotify Conversion Campaigns.

Q: Will my ad be successful?

A: The goal of this course is to help you develop the skillset to create, manage, and optimize your own campaigns, but the success of your work depends on the quality of your creative (the ad itself), the quality of the music, targeting, the zeitgeist, competition, and too many things outside of our control!

Q: Will we talk about the ALGORITHM?

A: Hellllll ya.

Q: What technical skills do I need for this workshop?

A: You'll need to have music released on Spotify, you'll need to be able to navigate the Meta Business Suite, and you'll need to be able to make video content with basic video editing software (premiere, davinci, imovie, and other video editing apps that allow you to add sound and music are all sufficient).

Q: Will I learn about TikTok, Google, or YouTube ads?

A: The same concepts apply and this will give you the skills you need to figure these other platforms out, but we will not be covering them in the course!
