What Magic Nothing costs
Everything here is priced in tokens, and one token is one US dollar. Tokens don't expire, and you only buy them when you want to spend them. This page lists every price an artist or a curator meets on the platform, and each figure is read straight from the code that charges and pays, so nothing here can quietly go out of date.
What you're actually paying for
A pitch buys a guaranteed review by a real person. It doesn't buy a placement, and nobody here can sell you one. The curator listens, considers your song for their playlist, and answers within 72 hours: they add it, they pass, or they place it on a different playlist of theirs that fits better. All three are reviews, and all three pay the curator the same amount.
A pass is a normal outcome and it isn't refunded, because the listen is the thing you bought. What does come back on its own is a pitch nobody got to: if the 72 hours run out with no review, your tokens return to your balance automatically, without you having to ask us for them.
Pitching a playlist
What a pitch costs depends on the playlist's tier, which comes from its health score: its reach, how active it is, and what artists who got placed on it tell us afterwards. Every playlist shows its own price before you check out, and the curator's share of that price is fixed.
| Tier | You pay | Curator earns |
|---|---|---|
| Entry | 3 tokens | 1 token |
| Starter | 6 tokens | 3 tokens |
| Standard | 9 tokens | 5 tokens |
| Premium | 11 tokens | 7 tokens |
| Elite | 17 tokens | 12 tokens |
Curators with a high rating carry a bonus on top of that. A Level 4 curator adds 2 tokens to the price and keeps 1 of them. A Level 5 curator adds 4 tokens to the price and keeps 2 of them. On Elite playlists the top bonus is 3 tokens instead, which holds the dearest single pitch on the marketplace at 20 tokens. The cheapest is 3.
You can add a second song to the same pitch for less than a second pitch would cost you. The curator hears both and adds whichever one fits. That add-on is priced as a share of the playlist's own price, and you see the exact number at checkout before you pay.
Pitching our editorial team
Magic Nothing runs playlists of its own. You don't pitch one of those playlists directly. You pitch our editorial team, and they consider your song for every playlist we run, then place it where it fits or pass. A regular pitch is 10 tokens. Priority is 25 tokens and skips the regular line. VIP is 35 tokens and puts you next up, and there's one VIP slot at a time.
Editorial reviews run on a longer clock than the marketplace does: 14 days, with the same automatic return of your tokens if we don't get to your song in time.
Buying tokens
The bundles right now: 50 tokens for $50, 110 tokens for $100, 250 tokens for $200. The bigger bundles include bonus tokens, and your first token purchase adds 5 more on top, as long as that purchase is a bundle or the shortfall at a pitch checkout. If a checkout costs more than the balance you're holding, you're charged the exact difference rather than pushed into a bundle you didn't want.
What a curator earns
Curators are paid per review, and the amount is locked in when the pitch arrives, so it can't move under them. Accepting, passing and placing a song on another playlist all pay the same, because the work is the same: listening properly and writing back. For a one-song pitch the per-tier amounts are the third column in the table above, plus the rating bonus for Level 4 and Level 5 curators.
A two-song pitch is one review of two songs, and it pays more, in tokens: Entry 2, Starter 5, Standard 8, Premium 10, Elite 17. The rating bonus goes on top of that too, and the amount is locked when the pitch arrives the same way.
A pitch that expires, or one the artist cancels before anyone listens, pays the curator nothing. Earned tokens cash out as real money through Stripe, in the curator's local currency, from 50 tokens up.
Hiring a marketer
The other half of the marketplace is vetted marketers who run real ad campaigns for a track, an album or a playlist. Campaigns bill monthly and you can cancel any time. The tiers: Launch at 375 tokens a month, Growth at 595 tokens a month, Premium at 1050 tokens a month.
